The continuous search for an ideal energy source, due to a considerable energy need, given the increasing production of Pastificio Guido Ferrara and dedicated support for environmentally-friendly sustainable development, have led Luca Ferrara, the current CEO, to install a system for the production of electric and thermal energy on the basis of feasibility reports. The thermoelectric refrigerator (also called a trigeneration unit) has a combined electric output of around 4,866 kW.
The trigeneration plant has an overall power output of 4,866 KW. This exceeds the company’s consumption, meaning a part of the energy produced can be sold. The system optimises the combustion of a conventional source (methane gas), decreasing greenhouse gas emissions and providing considerable energy savings. We use a heat exchanger to cool the engines and heat water to 80 °C which is used for services and to produce frigories using an absorption chiller. A heat exchanger is also used to cool the engine exhaust fumes, producing superheated water that is added to the water produced by the traditional boilers.

Excess heat in the motors is recovered by means of heat exchange from exhaust gas. The system optimises the combustion of a conventional source (methane gas), thus decreasing greenhouse gas emissions and providing considerable energy savings.
